Hello! It’s my birthday and I just wanted to celebrate it with all of you somehow, so woohoo yoohoo! I am now a 22 year-old. I am eating cake now yum yum.

Yes I’m back from Amsterdam and Brussels. I realize I have written neither on the Austria+Germany trip nor the Champagne day trip yet… and now this most recent trip. However, there are too many things happening in these last few days, so it’ll probably be some time before I get to writing about them, which I really want to do, to remember them by.

The most exciting news today is that someone who was on the Singapore/Lyon exchange from seven freaking years ago found me on facebook today! So exciting! So exciting! I had no idea he’s based in Paris now, so we’ve just been co-habiting in this city for the past many many months unaware that our universities were a walking distance away from each other. I’m so excited! Hahaha… it’s kinda late now considering I’m leaving on Friday morning, but re-established contact is re-established contact. Meeting him for lunch in a couple of days. Too bad he’s super busy this week. Friends who were on the exchange programme that year, do you remember Olivier? It’s Olivier! Or if you don’t remember Olivier, surely you remember Alexis? Olivier is Alexis’ friend. Remember remember? Ah I can hardly contain my excitement.

Today I had dinner with friends at Le Comptoir de Gastronomie. Great food. Before that, errands. Many things to do before returning. Weather’s bad these past few days- heavy rain and strong winds. The next few days, more errands! I kinda want to chill out too… maybe go to a couple of museums, maybe watch a movie? I don’t know. So many things to do in Paris, so little time left.

Hello from Brussels. Just arrived here from Amsterdam. Just to say hi. Hi! I’ll write more about the previous trip and this trip soon, probably when I’m back in Paris. Be back in Singapore in a week!

I’m now sitting in dear Celine’s bachelorette pad, a charming studio apartment in the 14th arrondissement. I let her rabbit, Elizabeth, out of her cage a while ago, because she is a poor thing to be cooped up in a small space all the time. Elizabeth is making me a little wary of her with all the powerful leaping that she is doing, but we’re alright. I think she still feels a little shy/scared around me, and we are just getting to know one another. I’m hoping she’ll warm to me soon. She lets me feed her, talk to her, touch her, but I don’t think we’re at the stage at which I can carry her without her protesting by… leaping? I’m not ready.

Anyway, bon, it’s now a fortnight before I’m in the air to go back to Singapour, sunny island set in the sea, Singapura, oh Singapura… … I’m ready to be back, to be back in my base, to enjoy time with family and friends with whom I’ve only had email/phone/MSN contact with for the past ten monthes, to have food I’ve missed readily and cheaply available, to have all my clothes, accessories, books, films at my disposal etc.

So yes I’m back from my Austria+Germany trip- extremely sunny, extremely hot. (I’m brown, if you can believe that.) Fun! I’ll be writing about it soon. The violent rabbit is scratching vehemently at something, so I’d better go see what she’s up to.

Bises xoxo

Madcap Week/Farewell, Room Wednesday, 6 June, 2007

It’s been a madcap week, filled with lunches and teas with friends, vintage/thrift shopping, walking at a leisurely pace in various pockets of the city (the whole of Saturday was spent just doing this- Le Marais, Pere Lachaise, Boulevard Haussmann), evening jogs in the park, packing packing and more packing.

I met Jo (fellow History undergrad, here in Europe on a packed vacation), Nicola (fresh from her immersion programme at Montpelier), Diya (room-mate during Yale Summer Session last year)+Timo (her boyfriend) for tea, lunch, tea respectively. Good food, good conversation. Then I made all of them go rummaging around in vintage shops with me for elegant dresses, cute skirts to be worn as dresses, smart vests, cool leather jackets, well-cut military jackets, cinch-in-the-waist belts, I’m-a-lady handbags and clutches, well-worn doctor bags, pretty printed scarves… … everyone had fun! Everyone left with some find(:

I… could not sleep last night. Not a wink. I never have trouble sleeping, but last night, I just could not drift off. One, too hot. Two, mosquitoes buzzing. Three (and this is probably the real reason), it was the last night I had my room all to myself. Parting is such sweet sorrow. I’m reluctant to leave my boudoir, my bureau, my base. For so many months. It’s the coziest, comfortable-st space. I will miss it.

The plan is tonight, Jo will come stay over, so very very early morning tomorrow, we can go to the airport together (i.e. leave my beloved room forever). (Deep breath.) Off on a mini-adventure! Vienna, Salzburg, Berlin in six days. And then there’ll be more adventures, which I’ll tell you about as they unfold. I’ll be home 30th June.
